Rich Paul, the prominent sports agent, has emphatically defended Bronny James, insisting that his NBA draft selection was based on merit, not his famous last name.

Speaking at LAX, Paul dismissed critics who claim nepotism influenced the Lakers’ decision to pick Bronny with the 55th overall draft choice.

Expressing his excitement for the 19-year-old’s achievement, Paul emphasized that Bronny’s skills and dedication earned him his spot, stating he would have been drafted even if his name were John Smith.

He highlighted Bronny’s deserving talent, reinforcing that the young athlete belongs in the NBA on his own merits.

Paul acknowledged the unique pressure Bronny faces playing alongside his legendary father, LeBron James, but maintained that the rookie has no more to prove than any other draftee. He argued that the “James” name does not exempt Bronny from the expectations placed on all new players.

Addressing accusations of nepotism, Paul dismissed them as mere envy, emphasizing that supportive parents have always played roles in their children’s athletic opportunities. “If that’s nepotism, then so be it,” he stated, defending the practice as a positive influence.

However, Paul remained tight-lipped regarding rumors that he advised other teams against drafting Bronny, offering only a smile and departing in his SUV, leaving speculation unanswered.
