A local defensive back, Bryce Fitzgerald, is making another visit to the University of Miami before his anticipated college decision in August.
Fitzgerald, a four-star recruit from Columbus High School, is attending the UM cookout on campus, marking the last opportunity for recruits to visit before the upcoming month-long recruiting dead period.
Fitzgerald plans to announce his college choice on August 17th, with his recruitment primarily involving Florida’s ‘Big Three’ schools: Miami, Florida, and FSU. In June, he visited each of these schools officially. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 175 pounds, Fitzgerald is ranked as the No. 216 overall player in the country by 247Sports.
Known for his versatility and instinctive play, Fitzgerald had a standout 2023 season with ten interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. Miami aims to secure a strong defensive back class for 2025, already holding commitments from five recruits, including four-star prospects Hylton Stubbs, Jaboree Antoine, Amari Wallace, Chris Ewald, and three-star Timothy Merritt.
247Sports describes Fitzgerald as a ‘split safety with range, awareness, and athleticism.’ Though he needs to improve his play strength and technique, he is seen as a potential impact player at the Power Four level. His continued physical and skill development is expected as he matures.
