San Francisco 9er’s QB Brock Purdy set for contract extension.

Brock Purdy, once dubbed Mr. Irrelevant as the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, is on the brink of securing a lucrative contract extension as he heads into the final year of his rookie deal in 2024.

The 24-year-old quarterback, who dramatically rose from the 262nd selection to becoming the San Francisco 49ers’ lead quarterback, has a current salary of $985,000.

His remarkable journey includes leading his team to the NFC championship game in his debut season and a Super Bowl appearance the following year, positioning him for a significant increase in pay.

With Purdy’s contract set to expire, the 49ers are preparing for a substantial financial commitment.

Team CEO Jed York acknowledges the hefty price tag that comes with a high-performing quarterback in the NFL, signaling that Purdy’s standout performances could see his value skyrocket with another strong season.

Jed Yorks Statement

“It’s a good problem when your quarterback is one of the highest-paid guys on your team and in the league,” York said, via The Mercury News, on Tuesday during the NFL’s annual owners meetings. “It’s what the market is. Brock is going to ask for something that no one has ever asked for before. I don’t know how many players are making over $40 million [a season] as a quarterback right now.”

NFL Quarterbacks’ Soaring Salaries: A Glimpse Into the Future.

In the competitive arena of the NFL, the quarterback salary landscape is experiencing unprecedented growth, with nine quarterbacks currently commanding salaries north of $40 million annually.

The list is poised to expand, as negotiations for Brock Purdy and Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys are underway, potentially propelling them into this elite salary bracket by 2025.

Amidst these developments, the San Francisco 49ers are navigating their own financial intricacies under the new stewardship of principal owner York, who asserts the pivotal role of efficient quarterbacks in achieving NFL success.

Brock Purdy, who earned Pro Bowl honors in 2023 after setting a 49ers team record with 4,280 passing yards and 31 touchdowns, is at the forefront of the team’s financial deliberations.

Purdy’s performance has been a stabilizing force for a position that has seen significant turnover since Colin Kaepernick’s tenure, marking a notable achievement alongside Jimmy Garoppolo’s 2019 season as the only 49ers quarterbacks to start 16 games in a season since 2014.

“To me, the quarterback is the most important position not just in football, but all of sports, and those guys should be paid a lot of money,” York said.

As the 49ers gear up for another Super Bowl contention, leveraging Purdy’s rookie deal has been instrumental in fortifying other areas of the team.

San Francisco 9ers WR Brandon Aiyuk contract situation.

The future of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk remains a pressing question.

Entering his fifth year with a $14.1 million salary, Aiyuk’s consecutive 1,000-yard seasons have positioned him as a valuable asset the team aims to retain.

The 49ers’ front office is tasked with strategically managing salary cap constraints while prioritizing extensions for key players like Aiyuk and Purdy.

Emphasizing the philosophy of rewarding internal talent before exploring free agency, the organization faces the challenge of maintaining competitive integrity while securing the future of its core players.

“Brandon, guys that you drafted, I’d much rather pay guys we drafted than guys we didn’t draft,” York said. “We’ll do everything we can, like we have in the past, to find a way to make those work.”
