Brighton head of recruitment, Sam Juwell has accepted Chelsea offer to join as a senior member in the recruitment team admist interest from Manchester united .

Jewell has stepped down from his role as Brighton’s head of recruitment, which he took over from Paul Winstanley 16 months ago when Winstanley departed for Stamford Bridge. He is set to complete his notice period before commencing a new position in November.

The 34-year-old was enticed by an offer of a global role in Chelsea’s multi-club operation. Chelsea’s ownership change in 2022, led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, the club has undergone significant internal restructuring, aiming to center its operations around co-sporting directors Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.

Jewell’s decision coincides with Chelsea’s anticipation of Josh Marsh joining as their new loans manager. Despite sporadic results, Chelsea remains committed to their youth-focused recruitment strategy overseen by Winstanley and Stewart.

One of Chelsea’s main objectives is to enhance their scouting through data-driven methods, drawing inspiration from Brighton’s successful model of achieving remarkable results through astute recruitment.

Several personnel transitions have occurred between Brighton and Chelsea, notably with Graham Potter becoming Chelsea’s manager in September 2022 and bringing along some of his coaching staff. Although Potter was later dismissed, some of his staff members, including Kyle Macaulay and Ben Roberts, remained at Chelsea.

Brighton has also profited from player transfers to Chelsea, including Marc Cucurella, Moisés Caicedo, and Robert Sánchez over the past two years. Jewell played a role in Caicedo’s transfer to Brighton, contributing to the club’s £115m sale of the Ecuadorian midfielder last summer.
