Manchester City handed tittle advantage after Liverpool and Arsenal defeat.

Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions have been significantly dented following a late surge from Aston Villa, resulting in a crucial win at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite Liverpool’s earlier stumble, Arsenal failed to capitalize, succumbing to defeat on what could have been a pivotal day in the title race. Mikel Arteta’s side now find themselves trailing new leaders Manchester City by a mere two points.

Emiliano Martinez haunts former club with word class performance.

The match unfolded as a tale of frustration for Arsenal, with former Arsenal keeper Emiliano Martinez proving to be a formidable obstacle, denying numerous scoring opportunities, notably thwarting Leandro Trossard’s close-range effort in the first half.

Villa, currently occupying fourth place, capitalized on Arsenal’s waning performance, with Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins securing victory with late strikes.

Arsenal’s lackluster display was evident as they struggled to break through Villa’s defense, with their attacking trio of Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and Bukayo Saka failing to make significant inroads.

Arteta’s tactical substitutions failed to yield results, with Jesus particularly underwhelming, missing multiple chances and displaying a lack of accuracy throughout the match.

Mikel Arterta Jorginho’s reserve role costly.

The absence of midfielder Jorginho, who was belatedly introduced in the 78th minute, was palpable as Villa’s midfield duo of Youri Tielemans and John McGinn grew in influence during the second half.

Despite Arsenal’s attempts at squad rotation, the decision did not pay dividends, highlighting the challenges of managing a congested fixture schedule.

While the focus will inevitably be on Arsenal’s setback in the title race, former manager Unai Emery will relish Villa’s triumph, securing a satisfying league double over his former club and strengthening Villa’s position in the top four.

As the tension mounts in the title race, Arsenal must regroup and refocus to keep their aspirations alive in the remaining fixtures of the season.
