Chris Wood Speaks Out on Nottingham Forest’s VAR Controversy Ahead of Manchester City Clash.
In the wake of Nottingham Forest’s contentious social media post decrying VAR decisions in their recent match against Everton, striker Chris Wood has voiced his understanding of the club’s frustration.
Nottingham Forest’s statement, which followed their 2-0 defeat to Everton, ignited widespread debate within the football community, asserting that they were unjustly denied three penalties during the game.
‘I can understand the frustration, definitely,’ Wood said of the remarkable statement on VAR.
‘What they put out is down to them, and that’s their words. There was frustration from a lot of people, but it’s up to the club.’
The club’s assertion, coupled with insinuations regarding the VAR’s allegiances, drew criticism from prominent figures such as Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.

Despite the backlash, Wood has spoken up, acknowledging the team’s grievances as they prepare for a crucial showdown against Manchester City.
Currently hovering above the relegation zone by a slim margin, Nottingham Forest faces a daunting end to the season, with fixtures against top-tier opponents like Manchester City and Chelsea.
Wood, however, remains optimistic, emphasizing that the team has moved past the fallout from the Everton defeat and is focused on their upcoming challenges.
‘We were all angry after the game, upset and frustrated,’ he added. ‘I think a lot of clubs have had a lot [of bad decisions] but I do think we’ve had more than our fair share this season – more than we did last season.
‘Everybody will complain about VAR in some ways but ultimately we have had a lot [go against us]. We can’t make the decisions, we can only control what happens on the pitch and how we play.
‘It’s unfortunate but we parked it the following day. We’ve got four games left in quick succession and we can’t be down about it. We need to get focused and go again.’
Wood’s individual contributions have been instrumental in Forest’s campaign, with his 12 goals providing vital support in their battle against relegation.
Reflecting on his role under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, Wood credits the coach’s trust in him for his success, drawing parallels to his tenure at Wolverhampton Wanderers with Raul Jimenez.
‘He seems to be bringing the best out of me and I want to continue to do that for as long as possible.
‘I’ve had a new lease of life. Actually starting games and being given the chance to play has helped a lot.’
As Nottingham Forest braces for the challenges ahead, Wood’s words convey a sense of determination and resilience amidst the controversy, highlighting the team’s unwavering commitment to their season’s objectives.
