Former Manchester United legend and PSV Eindhoven Coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy has emerged as a potential replacement for Enzo Maresca at Leicester City.

Former Manchester United star and PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is a top candidate for the vacant managerial role at Leicester City following Enzo Maresca’s expected departure to Chelsea.

Van Nistelrooy, 47, left PSV a year ago amidst reports of a player revolt, despite securing the Dutch Cup and a second-place league finish during his tenure.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, pundit Carlton Palmer described the potential hiring of Van Nistelrooy as a risky move for Leicester City.

Palmer highlighted Van Nistelrooy’s successful yet tumultuous time at PSV, noting his tactical preference for a 4-3-3 formation, similar to the style used by Maresca. However, Palmer emphasized that Van Nistelrooy’s exit from PSV was marred by allegations of losing the dressing room.

Palmer elaborated,”With Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca looking set to join Chelsea, they need to find a replacement. Ruud van Nistelrooy has been mentioned, but it would be a gamble. He did well at PSV, winning the Dutch Cup and leaving them in second place, but his departure was due to a player revolt.”

Despite these concerns, Palmer acknowledged Van Nistelrooy’s ambition to manage in the Premier League and his recent decision to turn down offers from Dutch clubs, signaling his interest in the UK or Spain.

Palmer warned, however, that Leicester’s potential points deduction and financial constraints might make Van Nistelrooy’s appointment particularly challenging.

Palmer concluded, “Van Nistelrooy has shown he can achieve success, but given Leicester’s current situation, it could be a risky choice. Fans might worry about past dressing room issues, but his track record in the Netherlands shows he knows how to win.”

Van Nistelrooy’s legacy as a winner both on the pitch and in the dugout may inspire confidence among Leicester fans. If appointed, his experience and ambition could bring success back to the King Power Stadium.
