Chelsea Coach Enzo Maresca

Chelsea FC has announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the new coach.

Chelsea has officially appointed Enzo Maresca as their new head coach on a five-year contract, following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino.

This marks the third permanent managerial change under the ownership of Todd Boehly’s Clearlake Capital consortium, which took over the club two years ago.

Maresca, the former manager of Leicester City, led the Foxes to an immediate Premier League return after their relegation.

His new role at Stamford Bridge comes after a challenging season for Chelsea, who spent much of the campaign in mid-table. Despite a strong finish with five consecutive wins securing a spot in the Europa Conference League, the club decided to part ways with Pochettino, who left by mutual consent following disagreements over his role.

The managerial instability at Chelsea has been notable since Boehly’s takeover.

Thomas Tuchel, who secured a Champions League title in 2021, was dismissed early in the 2022/23 season. His successor, Graham Potter, lasted only seven months before being replaced by interim manager Bruno Saltor.

Frank Lampard then served as caretaker manager until Pochettino was appointed in May last year.

Despite signs of progress and a positive end to the season under Pochettino, the decision was made for him to leave after discussions with the club’s hierarchy.

Since taking over from Roman Abramovich in May 2022, Clearlake Capital has invested over £1 billion in new signings, reflecting their ambition to restore Chelsea to the top echelons of football.

Enzo Maresca now faces the task of stabilizing the team and guiding them to success, continuing the rebuild with the young and talented squad he has inherited.
