Leeds United has released its retained list following the 2023-24 season, making key announcements regarding player contracts.

On Friday, June 7, the club confirmed via its official website that a one-year extension has been activated for Sam Byram, securing his stay at Elland Road for another season.

However, the club has decided to release Ian Poveda, one of 11 players whose contracts have expired. Poveda, who was previously a favorite of former manager Marcelo Bielsa, is now free to explore opportunities with other clubs.

Championship sides such as Sunderland have already shown interest, and Poveda is expected to find a new team soon.

In addition to Poveda, Leeds United’s retained list includes the departure of several other players.

Luke Ayling, whose contract was not renewed, has already signed with Middlesbrough following a loan spell last season.

Other players released include Charlie Allen, Lewis Bate, Keenan Carole, Cuba Diboe, Scott Godden, Harvey Sutcliffe, Dani van den Heuvel, and Morten Spencer.

Stuart Dallas, who had previously announced his retirement due to injury issues, is also listed.

Meanwhile, the club is in ongoing discussions with Liam Cooper and Jamie Shackleton about extending their contracts.

Their decisions will be closely watched by fans, as both players have been significant contributors to the team.

Leeds United supporters are eagerly awaiting further updates, particularly concerning the potential acquisition of Eric Smith by manager Daniel Farke, following the team’s promotion-winning season.
