Rangers have been active in the transfer market since the window opened on June 14th, securing key players like Leon Balogun and Oscar Cortes, while Clinton Nsiala turned down AC Milan for a move to Glasgow.

However, the club’s interest in Hammarby’s Nathaniel Adjei has encountered unexpected complications.

June 14th was a crucial date for Adjei’s future, marking the deadline for French club Lorient to exercise their purchase option following his loan from Hammarby.

According to Expressen journalist Anel Avdic, Lorient activated the clause at the last minute, agreeing to a record sale for Hammarby worth approximately £5 million, including bonuses.

Despite Avdic’s report, French media outlets remain silent on the deal. Lorient, facing financial difficulties due to relegation from Ligue 1, seem unlikely candidates for a significant transfer expenditure. This discrepancy casts doubt on the validity of the reported agreement.

Adjei, a towering defender compared to Virgil van Dijk, would be a valuable addition for Rangers. His physical prowess and footballing skills have earned praise, even overcoming language barriers to showcase leadership at Lorient.

Rangers’ manager Philippe Clement and director Nils Koppen have demonstrated creativity in their transfer strategies, such as the loan-to-buy deal for Cortes.

Adjei, along with another target, Albion Rrahmani, represents a significant investment for Rangers, both expected to make immediate impacts and offer future financial returns.

While Lorient’s silence raises questions, Rangers might still have an opportunity to secure Adjei, mirroring their successful maneuvering with Connor Barron.

The situation remains fluid, and Rangers’ transfer dealings are far from concluded as they continue to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
