Steve Cooper, former Nottingham Forest manager, is reportedly in advanced discussions to take over as the new boss of Leicester City.
Since his departure from Forest in December, Cooper has been looking for the right opportunity to return to management.
According to the PA news agency, he is now a frontrunner to replace Enzo Maresca at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.
Maresca recently vacated the Leicester post after successfully securing promotion to the Premier League, moving on to manage Chelsea following Mauricio Pochettino’s exit at the end of the season.
Cooper, renowned for guiding Nottingham Forest to their first Premier League appearance in 23 years and ensuring their survival in the top flight, has been patient in seeking his next role.
The potential appointment comes with significant challenges. Leicester City faces the prospect of a points deduction and may need to offload players during the summer to adhere to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.
Other candidates reportedly considered for the position include former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan.
Cooper’s track record of achieving success under pressure could make him a valuable asset for Leicester as they navigate these hurdles and aim for a stable Premier League campaign.
