Marc Guiu is keen on Chelsea move

Chelsea is actively negotiating to acquire Marc Guiu from Barcelona, with sources indicating the Premier League club is ready to meet the striker’s €6 million release clause.

Despite Barcelona’s interest in retaining the 18-year-old talent, recent contract discussions have stalled, making a last-minute bid to keep him uncertain.

Guiu, a promising forward who has been with Barcelona for over a decade, has caught the attention of several clubs due to his low-cost transfer fee. His current contract expires in 2025, but with Chelsea leading the race, the decision now rests with Guiu, who is expected to make his final choice this week.

The London club’s plans for Guiu include immediate integration into the first-team squad rather than loaning him out, indicating their high regard for his potential.

Guiu has shown significant promise during his time with Barcelona. He made a memorable first-team debut by scoring within 23 seconds in a match against Athletic Club last October and added another goal during a Champions League game against Antwerp.

Despite these high points, he finished the season with Barcelona’s B team, contributing six goals in 16 appearances but failing to score in the crucial playoff final against Córdoba.

Barcelona’s internal sources reveal that the club highly values Guiu’s attributes, particularly his capabilities as a traditional tall No. 9, a rarity among La Masia graduates. However, there is a sense of regret within the club for exposing Guiu to the first team without securing him on a longer, more lucrative contract.

Other young talents such as Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, Hector Fort, and Marc Casadó have recently secured contracts with higher release clauses, adding to the frustration of potentially losing Guiu for a relatively low fee.

The outcome of these negotiations will be crucial for both clubs. For Chelsea, acquiring Guiu would add a valuable asset to their squad, while Barcelona faces the challenge of retaining a rising star amid a challenging contract situation.
