Gary Lineker has made a bold statement about Chelsea’s Cole Palmer following his impressive performance for England at Euro 2024.

Palmer made his tournament debut, substituting Bukayo Saka in the 71st minute during England’s 0-0 draw against Slovenia.

Despite the lack of goals, the result secured England the top spot in Group C. The Three Lions scored only two goals in their three group stage matches, highlighting a need for more attacking sharpness. However, Palmer’s introduction was a positive takeaway, as the Chelsea attacker brought energy and creativity to England’s forward play.

Gary Lineker, speaking on “The Rest Is Football” podcast, singled out Palmer’s quality during his brief appearance, suggesting he might be the best young English talent currently, a significant claim considering the presence of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Bukayo Saka in the squad.

“There were downsides but I think there were real positives, particularly I thought when Cole Palmer came on,” Lineker said.

He further noted Palmer’s composure and readiness to handle pressure, qualities that make him stand out.

With England’s attack looking somewhat sluggish, Palmer’s dynamic presence could be crucial as the tournament progresses. His performance against Slovenia demonstrated his ability to impact the game positively, earning him the nickname ‘Cold Palmer’ for his cool demeanor on the pitch.

Many hope that Southgate will consider starting Palmer in England’s upcoming last-16 match on Sunday. His fresh legs and creative flair could be the key to unlocking tougher defenses as the competition intensifies.

Palmer’s impressive cameo has certainly given Southgate a lot to think about in terms of his attacking options moving forward.
