Hank Haney, former coach to Tiger Woods, has launched a scathing attack on the PGA Tour, arguing it is now easier than ever to win due to the departure of numerous top players to LIV Golf.
The Saudi-backed breakaway tour has enticed stars like Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau with lucrative deals, thereby diluting the competition on the PGA Tour.
Haney, who coached Woods from 2004 to 2010, took to social media to express his frustration, stating:
“Not one member of the corrupt golf media has written an article or talked about how it’s easier than ever to win on the PGA Tour.”
He believes the exits have allowed players like Scottie Scheffler to dominate. Scheffler has achieved six victories in 2024 alone, a feat unmatched since Woods in 2009.
Haney’s tenure with Woods was marked by six major title wins before their professional relationship ended in 2010. The split came after Woods’ highly publicized personal scandals and a disappointing performance at the Quail Hollow Championship.
Haney later revealed feeling relief post-separation, despite the successful run they had together.
Reflecting on his departure, Haney said:
“It was a tough decision to quit… but I’m better off out of it. My record with him will never be approached.”
He lamented the lack of support from Woods during the turmoil, expressing a desire for public backing that never came.
Haney’s critique comes amid broader discussions on the impact of LIV Golf on traditional tours. As more players defect, the landscape of professional golf continues to shift, raising questions about the future competitiveness of the PGA Tour.
