Manchester United has been informed of the cost required to secure Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

The Red Devils are focused on bolstering their defense and are keen on signing De Ligt, with efforts intensifying to finalize a deal.

Earlier reports indicated that United had engaged in discussions with De Ligt’s representatives, signaling their interest in the player.

De Ligt, who has previously thrived under Erik ten Hag at Ajax, is reportedly open to reuniting with his former coach at Old Trafford. Sources suggest that United has offered the Dutch defender a five-year contract, with personal terms allegedly agreed upon.

According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, Bayern Munich has set an asking price for De Ligt at a minimum of 50 million euros, plus additional bonus payments.

Plettenberg shared this update on X (formerly Twitter), noting that Manchester United has yet to make an official offer.

He also highlighted that Rafaela Pimenta, a prominent agent, is in direct contact with United to facilitate a deal, emphasizing Ten Hag’s strong desire to bring De Ligt to Manchester.

Last season, De Ligt made 30 appearances for Bayern Munich, contributing two goals and helping the team achieve nine clean sheets.

The 24-year-old is currently with the Netherlands national team at Euro 2024 but has not yet featured in any matches, as manager Ronald Koeman has preferred a center-back pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Stefan de Vrij.
