Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the Everton striker, has rejected a new contract from his current club, expressing a strong desire to transfer to Newcastle United.
According to journalist Graeme Bailey, speaking to Everton.news on July 4th, Calvert-Lewin is eager to move to St James’ Park, despite Newcastle pulling out of talks last month.
The 26-year-old striker has made it clear that he wants to join Newcastle, and Bailey suggests that a deal is still possible. He notes that Everton has offered Calvert-Lewin a new contract, which the player has declined, indicating his preference for a transfer.
Bailey speculates that Newcastle might re-enter negotiations in August, with Everton open to the idea of his departure.
Everton manager Sean Dyche ideally would like to retain Calvert-Lewin, who fits well into his tactical plans. However, the club’s financial difficulties mean they cannot afford to risk losing him for free next year, especially given his injury history.
Everton has already signed Iliman Ndiaye to strengthen their forward options, and there is interest in Che Adams from Birmingham City, indicating potential preparations for Calvert-Lewin’s exit.
The situation could develop into a standoff, with Everton possibly delaying a final decision until late in the transfer window. Should Calvert-Lewin push for a move, it would be beneficial for Everton to secure a deal that brings in funds and allows for reinvestment in the squad.
