Leeds United recently declined a permanent transfer offer from Plymouth Argyle for midfielder Darko Gyabi.

This revelation came from Neil Dewsnip, Plymouth Argyle’s director of football, during an interview with Plymouth Live.

Leeds United Midfielder Darko Gyabi

Gyabi, a former Manchester City player, had joined Plymouth Argyle on loan earlier this year, after struggling to secure a place in Leeds United’s first team. During his initial loan spell in the second half of the 2023/24 season, Gyabi made 10 appearances for Plymouth Argyle, contributing one assist and helping the team in their battle against relegation.

Despite an injury prematurely ending his season, the experience was deemed valuable as it provided him with regular Championship playing time.

In light of his performance, Plymouth Argyle expressed interest in making Gyabi’s move permanent. However, Leeds United were not willing to entertain the possibility of selling him.

Dewsnip noted that although Plymouth had hoped to secure a permanent transfer, Leeds were firm in their stance, only agreeing to another loan deal.

Leeds United’s investment in Gyabi remains significant. They acquired him for £5 million from Manchester City in the summer of 2022, and he has two years left on his contract. The club sees potential in Gyabi and hopes his continued development on loan will enable him to play a more significant role upon his return.

This upcoming season with Plymouth Argyle is crucial for Gyabi. His performances will be closely monitored, as they will influence Leeds United’s decision regarding his future. If he excels, Leeds might offer him a long-term contract extension; otherwise, they might consider selling him to recover their investment.
