Newcastle United are actively pursuing Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga to strengthen their right-wing options, as per reports from The Athletic.
Manager Eddie Howe is keen on bringing the 22-year-old winger to St James’ Park this summer, particularly with current winger Miguel Almiron expected to depart for Saudi Arabia.
Elanga, who joined Nottingham Forest from Manchester United for around £15 million, has impressed with his performance last season. He scored five goals and provided nine assists, creating 14 big chances and playing a significant role in Forest’s bid to avoid relegation. His dynamic playing style and defensive diligence align well with Howe’s tactical approach.
Newcastle’s commitment to securing a high-quality right-winger is evident as they are set to allocate a substantial portion of their transfer budget for this acquisition. This need is underscored by their recent sale of Yankuba Minteh to Brighton & Hove Albion, a move aimed at maintaining compliance with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
While Elanga is a prime target, Nottingham Forest’s reluctance to sell after just one season poses a challenge. His contract, extending until 2028, further strengthens Forest’s negotiating stance.
Other potential candidates for Newcastle include Chelsea’s Noni Madueke and West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen. Madueke, though inconsistent last season, shows considerable potential and could be available given Chelsea’s surplus of right-wingers. However, his productivity, with five goals and two assists in 23 appearances, suggests he needs more development.
Bowen, on the other hand, offers a proven track record with 16 goals and six assists last season. His versatility and consistency make him a strong contender, although his high valuation may complicate any transfer negotiations.
Newcastle’s focus on the right-wing position is clear, as they aim to bolster their attacking arsenal ahead of the new season.
