As the New York Yankees approach the All-Star Break in a challenging position, they are also gearing up for the 2024 MLB Draft.

Holding the No. 26 overall pick, the Yankees have numerous options, from bolstering their pitching roster to enhancing their batting lineup with powerful hitters.

In a recent three-round mock draft by Edward Sutelan of Sporting News, the Yankees are projected to select Billy Amick, a third baseman from Tennessee known for his formidable power.

Amick, who transferred to Tennessee after two seasons at Clemson, made a significant impact in his first season with the Volunteers. He posted an impressive .306/.387/.639 slash line, hit 23 home runs, drove in 65 runs, and drew 29 walks over 65 games and 292 plate appearances.

Amick’s performance has propelled him up draft boards. Despite some concerns about his tendency to chase pitches and the possibility of a future move to first base, his power is undeniable and could complement the Yankees’ potent lineup. Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 217 pounds, Amick is praised for his work ethic and emerged as one of the most feared hitters in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) during the 2024 season.

According to MLB.com’s scouting report, Amick boasts a high-quality right-handed swing and consistently makes solid contact, despite a penchant for chasing pitches out of the zone. His aggressive batting style results in hard hits across all fields, translating to his potential for 20-25 home runs per season.

Beyond the first round, the Yankees are also predicted to select first baseman Blake Burke, another standout from Tennessee, in the second round, followed by left-handed pitcher Payton Tolle from Texas Christian University (TCU) in the third round. These picks reflect the Yankees’ strategy to infuse young talent and power into their roster as they look to build a competitive edge for the future.
