The persistent injury issues at Nottingham Forest continue as manager Nuno Nuno Espirito Santo reveals troubling news about striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

Despite kicking off the 2024/25 season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Chesterfield, the team faces a setback with Awoniyi’s latest injury.

During the pre-season friendly, Chris Wood, Josh Bowler, and Ibrahim Sangare found the net, showcasing the squad’s depth. However, the absence of Matz Sels and Matt Turner, who were on extended breaks after international duty, and Awoniyi’s ongoing injury woes, cast a shadow over the victory.

Since joining Forest in 2022, Awoniyi has struggled with injuries, and his latest setback occurred in the first training session of the week.

Espirito Santo, speaking to Nottinghamshire Live, confirmed the injury:

“He had a problem in the first training session of the week. It was something in his calf. Unfortunately, he wasn’t right for today. Hopefully, he doesn’t miss too much of pre-season.”

Awoniyi’s recurring injuries are becoming a significant concern for Forest. Although he has the potential to be a formidable striker, his frequent absences make it difficult for the team to rely on him consistently. This situation underscores the need for Forest to consider bringing in another striker this summer.

With pre-season training underway, the team hopes Awoniyi’s injury isn’t severe. Nevertheless, at 26, he should be hitting his peak, but his injury record is forcing Forest to reassess their forward options.

The medical team at Forest faces a challenge in getting Awoniyi back to full fitness and ensuring his availability for the crucial upcoming season.
