Leeds United have reportedly entered the race to sign Harrison Burrows, a standout defender from Peterborough United, just as Sheffield United seemed poised to secure his transfer.

Burrows, named League One Player of the Season, has garnered substantial interest during the summer transfer window. Initially, Sheffield United appeared to lead the pursuit, having even completed a medical with the player. However, their ongoing takeover complications delayed finalizing the deal.

During this delay, Birmingham City and Preston North End both attempted to intercept the transfer but ultimately failed to meet Peterborough’s asking price. Despite this, Sheffield United’s renewed interest suggested they were close to securing Burrows.

Now, Leeds United has made a late official inquiry, potentially derailing Sheffield’s efforts. This move aligns with hints from Peterborough’s chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, who hinted at another club’s involvement during an interview on talkSPORT.

The uncertainty around Sheffield United’s takeover has opened the door for Leeds United, who are eyeing promotion and present a compelling alternative for Burrows. Although Burrows has been in advanced discussions with Sheffield United, Leeds’ late bid could sway both the player and Peterborough’s decision, especially if it’s financially superior.

The final destination of Burrows remains uncertain, but Leeds’ entry into the fray has certainly added a new twist to the transfer saga.
