Everton are interested in acquiring Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, but financial constraints may limit them to a loan deal, according to talkSPORT.
The 28-year-old England international has had a challenging time since his departure from Leeds United in 2022. Phillips has only accumulated 914 minutes of playtime at Manchester City over a season and a half. In an attempt to rejuvenate his career, he was loaned to West Ham in January, but his stint there was also unsuccessful, as he quickly lost his place in the starting lineup.
Everton, under the management of Sean Dyche, are in need of a midfielder with Phillips’ skillset. Despite their interest, the club’s financial situation likely restricts them to pursuing a loan arrangement rather than a permanent transfer. The decision now hinges on whether Manchester City will permit another loan for Phillips, whom they currently consider surplus to requirements.
Additionally, Phillips’ significant wage demands add another layer of complexity, with Manchester City expecting any borrowing club to cover his salary. Phillips remains under contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2028.
