Arsenal is poised to outmaneuver Tottenham in the summer transfer market by targeting a key striker.
Both North London rivals have identified the need for a new forward, with Arsenal aiming to support Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, while Tottenham seeks to lessen their dependency on Son Heung-min.
Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, has been scouting Serie A for potential signings, but reports from Italy indicate that Spurs’ hesitation could give Arsenal the upper hand.
Initial reports suggested Tottenham was close to securing a bargain deal for Italy’s Federico Chiesa, with a transfer fee estimated between €20-25 million. However, it appears that Spurs have yet to contact Juventus, Chiesa’s current club.
Meanwhile, Chelsea has also shown interest but has not progressed with negotiations. Arsenal has reportedly made the first move by inquiring about the terms of a potential deal. Juventus, under new management with Thiago Motta, does not appear inclined to offer Chiesa a contract extension. The 26-year-old has struggled with injuries since his crucial role in Italy’s Euro 2020 victory.
Despite being valued at €35 million, Chiesa might be a valuable addition for a team that can help him regain his form from the 2020/21 season. However, Arsenal’s ambitions for a title challenge could necessitate a more high-profile signing to ensure a steady stream of goals for the upcoming season.
