In a thrilling game at Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox managed to overcome a spectacular 470-foot home run by Aaron Judge, rallying in the eighth inning to defeat the New York Yankees 9-7.

Masataka Yoshida played a crucial role, hitting a tiebreaking two-run single off Clay Holmes during Boston’s three-run surge in the eighth. This late comeback came after Judge’s impressive three-run homer in the seventh inning, his 36th of the season, which had temporarily put the Yankees ahead 6-4.

The home run by Judge, landing in a rarely reached section of the stands, was the fifth-longest of his career, with Judge himself noting its exceptional distance upon replay. Despite this, the Red Sox persisted. Ceddanne Rafaela’s two-run homer reduced the Yankees’ lead, setting the stage for Yoshida’s game-winning hit.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora drew comparisons to Manny Ramirez’s memorable homer in 2007, emphasizing Judge’s power but praising his own team’s resilience. On the other side, Yankees manager Aaron Boone recognized the difficulty of Holmes’ relief situation, which marked his second appearance since mid-July.

Boston’s relief pitcher Bailey Horn secured his first major league win, while Kenley Jansen achieved his 20th save of the season. Yankees starter Nestor Cortes struggled, allowing four runs over 4 2/3 innings, contrasting sharply with his performance at home.

The game also highlighted some key roster updates. Boston acquired pitcher James Paxton from the Dodgers, and Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton is expected to return soon from injury. This victory was significant for Boston, which had been struggling post-All-Star break, while New York continued its challenging stretch, now 10-23 after a strong start to the season.
