Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz triumphed over the Argentine pair, Máximo González and Andrés Molteni, in the first round of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In the round of 16, they faced the Dutch duo Tallon Griekspoor, whom Alcaraz had defeated in singles, and Wesley Koolhof, a former world No. 1 in doubles. Demonstrating growing teamwork, Nadal and Alcaraz decisively won the match with a score of 6-4, 6-7(2), 10-2.
The first set was closely contested until Nadal and Alcaraz secured a break, maintaining their lead to win 6-4.
The second set saw increased resistance from the Dutch team, leading to a tie-break which Koolhof’s excellent play won for the Netherlands 7-2. However, in the deciding super tie-break, the Spanish duo dominated, starting strong and maintaining their momentum to finish with a 10-2 victory.
Looking ahead, Nadal and Alcaraz are set to face the American pair Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram, the No. 4 seeds, in the quarterfinals.
