Celtic are reportedly considering a £4 million move for Lausanne-Sport midfielder Alvyn Sanches as a potential replacement for Matt O’Riley.

This comes as Atalanta appears to be inching closer to meeting Celtic’s £25 million valuation for the Danish midfielder. Despite Atalanta’s latest bid of £21.5 million plus £2 million in add-ons falling short, Celtic remain firm, holding out for their asking price.

With O’Riley’s departure looking increasingly likely, Celtic has been active in the transfer market. They recently secured Adam Idah from Norwich City following his successful loan stint. However, with O’Riley potentially leaving, an attacking midfield vacancy could arise, prompting Celtic’s interest in Sanches.

At just 21 years old, Sanches is seen as a promising talent who could develop under Brendan Rodgers’ guidance. Although his last season was marred by injury, Sanches managed to showcase his potential, scoring five goals in 18 starts.

While his creative output—zero assists last season—needs improvement, the Swiss midfielder could evolve into a key player for Celtic, potentially replicating O’Riley’s influence.

Should Celtic manage to sell O’Riley for £25 million and bring in Sanches for just £4 million, the transfer window might prove to be a masterstroke for the Scottish champions. However, replacing O’Riley’s contributions will undoubtedly be a challenging task.
