Saints fans may find new reasons to be hopeful about the team’s quarterback depth following recent preseason performances by Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener.
In the New Orleans Saints’ preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, Rattler delivered a perfectly executed touchdown pass to Equanimeous St. Brown, dispelling doubts about the backup quarterback position.
This standout play followed a week of practice where Rattler, Haener, and starting QB Derek Carr competed in throwing drills, with Rattler eventually coming out on top during Sunday’s game.
Despite a narrow 30-27 loss to the Titans, both Rattler and Haener demonstrated their potential to effectively lead the offense if called upon during the regular season. While Carr is set to start in the season opener against the Carolina Panthers, the competition between Rattler and Haener throughout training camp has narrowed, with both players showing they could be viable options as future starters.
Haener, who has shown consistency in camp, and Rattler, who might possess a higher ceiling, have given the Saints valuable depth at the quarterback position.
