Nottingham Forest have officially secured the services of Porto defender David Carmo, marking their ninth signing in what has been an active transfer window.

The 25-year-old centre-back has inked a five-year contract with the club for a reported fee of €15 million. However, Forest supporters will not see him in action at the City Ground this season, as he is set to spend the 2024/25 campaign on loan with Olympiacos, a club owned by Evangelos Marinakis.

Carmo, who has dual Portuguese and Angolan heritage, joined Porto in the summer of 2022 for €20 million from Braga. Despite his limited appearances—only 27 for Porto—he has already collected significant silverware, including the Portuguese Cup in both 2021 and 2023. Additionally, he played a crucial role in Olympiacos’ Europa Conference League triumph during his loan spell last season.

Nottingham Forest highlighted Carmo’s extensive experience in European competitions in their announcement. The defender has accumulated nine appearances across the UEFA Champions League and Europa Conference League with FC Porto and Olympiacos, along with 11 appearances in the UEFA Europa League with Braga. His early career also saw him contribute to Portugal’s Under-19 European Championship victory in 2018.

Forest’s defensive depth is evident, with recent matches showcasing a strong backline that includes Willy Boly, Murillo, and Nikola Milenković.

As the team prepares for the rest of the season, Carmo’s addition, although not immediate, is a strategic move aimed at bolstering their future defensive options.
