A high school football player from Alabama has tragically passed away after suffering a severe brain injury during a game on Friday night.
Sixteen-year-old Caden Tellier, a junior quarterback at John T. Morgan Academy, was injured during the third quarter of a match against Southern Academy in Selma. He was immediately airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
While the exact details remain unclear, reports suggest that Tellier likely sustained a ruptured blood vessel in his brain after making contact with the field during what appeared to be a routine tackle. The Alabama Independent School Association’s Executive Director, Michael McLendon, confirmed the incident.
In a heartfelt statement, the Tellier family reflected on Caden’s generous spirit, noting that even in death, he continues to make a difference as an organ donor. To honor his memory, Morgan Academy has canceled all classes and activities for the week, allowing the community to grieve together.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to cover funeral expenses, raising over $75,000 toward its $100,000 goal.
