Celtic’s effective transfer strategy, focused on buying low and selling high, has yielded remarkable financial results, particularly highlighted by Matt O’Riley’s recent move to Brighton.
Acquired for just £1.5 million from MK Dons in 2022, O’Riley’s transfer brought in a record £30 million after two impressive seasons at Parkhead. This sale not only underscores Celtic’s prowess in the transfer market but also significantly bolsters the club’s financial position.
Over the past decade, Celtic’s transfer activities have generated nearly £200 million, with key sales including Kieran Tierney, Odsonne Edouard, and Jota.
According to Transfermarkt, these sales have amounted to £196.35 million, far outstripping rivals Rangers, who have made just £60.4 million during the same period. This stark contrast highlights the financial gulf between the two clubs, with Celtic leading in terms of profitable player transactions.
Celtic’s top sales list is a testament to this strategy, featuring significant departures like Jota (£25m+), Kieran Tierney (£25m), and Moussa Dembele (£19m).
These sales have positioned Celtic as a dominant force in the Scottish Premiership, with transfer income further securing their status at the top of the league.
