Nottingham Forest is actively pursuing a last-minute transfer for Benfica defender Morato as the summer transfer window nears its close, according to The Athletic.
Manager Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to bolster his defense following the departure of Joe Worrall to Burnley. Morato, a 23-year-old Brazilian center-back, has emerged as a prime target. The transfer fee is expected to be around €15 million, though it’s uncertain if the deal can be finalized before the 11 pm deadline.
Forest already has several center-back options, including recent signings Nikola Milenkovic, Murillo, Willy Boly, and Andrew Omobamidele, along with 18-year-old Zach Abbott. However, Espirito Santo is seeking additional depth and views Morato as a versatile player capable of providing both competition and cover. Morato’s ability to also play at left-back adds to his appeal.
If the transfer goes through, Morato will join fellow Brazilians Murillo, Danilo, and Carlos Miguel at Forest. The move could enhance his chances of breaking into the Brazilian national team, an ambition he’s held since his under-20 call-up in 2019. The former Primeira Liga winner, who has made 78 appearances for Benfica, is likely to welcome the opportunity to play in the Premier League.
