The Pittsburgh Steelers secured a narrow 18-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons in their season opener without scoring a touchdown.

As the team gears up for their Week 2 matchup against the Denver Broncos, they have made significant roster adjustments. On Tuesday, the Steelers announced the addition of former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Shaquan Davis to their practice squad, while simultaneously releasing linebacker Marcus Haynes.

Davis, who joined the Saints as an undrafted free agent last offseason, spent the entire 2023 season on their practice squad. He briefly participated in the Philadelphia Eagles’ training camp this offseason before returning to the Saints.

Currently, George Pickens is the Steelers’ primary wide receiver, but the depth behind him consists mainly of inexperienced players. Pickens had a modest performance against the Falcons, catching two passes for eight yards. Rookie receiver Roman Wilson is still recovering from an ankle injury, which may open an opportunity for Davis to earn a spot on the 53-man roster alongside fellow receivers Quez Watkins, Ben Skowronek, and Brandon Johnson.

The upcoming game against the Broncos, which was initially expected to feature a return of quarterback Russell Wilson, will see backup Justin Fields start instead. Davis, who played college football at South Carolina State, boasts collegiate stats including 934 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. In the 2022 season, he recorded 23 receptions for 546 yards and five touchdowns.
