Former tennis champion Andy Murray has opened up about his post-retirement life, revealing a newfound sense of freedom and relief.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Murray shared that he had feared life after tennis would be difficult, but it has been quite the opposite.
Since retiring after the 2024 Paris Olympics, he has been enjoying quality time with his family, something that was hard to balance during his professional career.
“Since I’ve stopped, I feel really free and have lots of time to do whatever I want,” Murray said, adding that he now has more time to spend with his children, play golf, and stay active on his own terms. Reflecting on his years as a tennis player, Murray confessed that the constant travel and long periods away from home often made him feel guilty. “If I was away for weeks, I’d feel bad for leaving my family behind,” he explained.
Although he once feared he would miss tennis, Murray admitted the reality has been far different. Now, he embraces his new role as a father and is focusing on personal hobbies, such as improving his golf game.
