Emma Raducanu acknowledged making scheduling mistakes over the summer but now aims to make up for it by participating in as many matches as possible before the season ends.
Currently competing in her third tournament since her fourth-round exit at Wimbledon, she secured a hard-fought win against American Peyton Stearns in the first round of the Korea Open.
Raducanu chose not to participate in the Olympics to focus on the North American hard-court season but only played in Washington before her early exit from the US Open. After her emotional first-round loss to Sofia Kenin, Raducanu admitted she should have played more matches during the summer.
Now, she plans to take full advantage of the remaining season in Asia, where she will compete in the upcoming China Open and Wuhan Open.
“As long as I’m healthy, I’m going to try and finish the season and play as many matches as I can,” Raducanu told wtatennis.com.
Reflecting on her match against Stearns, she mentioned the lack of match play even during practice, which she believes will improve her form over the coming weeks.
Raducanu, who will face eighth seed Yuan Yue in the second round, is excited to return to Asia, having missed much of last season due to injuries. With no ranking points to defend, she has a significant opportunity to boost her current ranking of 70th.
“Playing in China will be a first for me, and I feel comfortable in this environment, which is an advantage,” she said.
