Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has once again defended forward Julián Alvarez, who has faced increasing criticism after another underwhelming performance in La Liga.

Alvarez, who started in Atlético’s 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano, struggled to make a significant impact on Sunday night. This disappointing outing is part of a larger pattern for the Argentine striker, who has yet to live up to the high expectations following his summer transfer to the Spanish capital.

Despite the criticisms, Simeone remains supportive of his player, stressing that Alvarez’s time at the club has only just begun. Speaking after the match, the Argentine coach pointed out that Alvarez is still adjusting and has the potential to deliver more in the future. He likened Alvarez’s struggles to those of teammate Alexander Sørloth, assuring that goals will eventually come for both players.

Simeone expressed confidence in Alvarez’s abilities, emphasizing his importance to the team and dismissing concerns about his current form.

“He’s a great player, and the goals will arrive,” the Atlético boss stated.
