In a recent appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up,” college football analyst Paul Finebaum shared his insights on the highly anticipated matchup between the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs and the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide, scheduled to take place in Tuscaloosa.
As a respected figure in SEC analysis, Finebaum expressed skepticism about Georgia’s current performance despite their undefeated record. He noted that, while the Bulldogs are slightly favored in betting lines, Alabama has demonstrated more consistent strength throughout the 2024 season.
Finebaum remarked on Georgia’s lackluster performance against the Kentucky Wildcats, stating:
“Georgia has looked confused and discombobulated at times this season.”
This observation raised concerns about their readiness for tougher challenges ahead. While he withheld his official game prediction, Finebaum indicated a lean towards Alabama, citing their superior play and Georgia’s recent struggles.
“I’m leaning toward Alabama, and it’s based on how well they have played,” he explained.
Georgia opened the season with impressive victories, including a 34-3 win over Clemson and a commanding 48-3 triumph over Tennessee Tech. However, their narrow 13-12 victory against Kentucky left fans and analysts questioning their dominance.
Finebaum noted that while Lexington can be a challenging venue, Tuscaloosa presents an entirely different level of difficulty. He also highlighted Georgia’s apparent shortcomings in their offensive line, which could be detrimental in their upcoming clash.
In contrast, Alabama has been on a roll, securing blowout victories under first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer, including a 63-0 win against WKU and a 42-10 victory over Wisconsin.
As the countdown to the game continues, Finebaum’s analysis raises critical questions about Georgia’s status as an elite team this season.
