The Philadelphia Phillies entered the 2024 season with high hopes, aiming to redeem themselves after falling to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2023 NLCS.

With a promising roster, they were poised to make a deeper playoff run this year. However, their campaign ended in disappointment after a three-game sweep by the New York Mets in the NLDS, leaving fans and analysts alike wondering what went wrong.

Although the Phillies boasted several achievements, including a 95-67 regular season record, an NL East Division title, and the second-best record in MLB, they fell short when it mattered most.

Key contributors like Kyle Schwarber shone by breaking records, hitting 15 leadoff homers, and improving his batting average from .197 to .248.

Cristopher Sánchez also had a breakout year, setting career highs and earning his first All-Star selection, while rookie Orion Kerkering showed promise with a 2.29 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 63 innings.

Despite these bright spots, several players struggled, raising concerns about regression. The Phillies’ flat offense and underperforming bullpen were pivotal in their early exit. With an unexpectedly early offseason, the front office will focus on player evaluations, aiming to correct individual flaws through targeted offseason programs.

Addressing these shortcomings is essential if the Phillies hope to go further in 2025.
