The Las Vegas Raiders offense is facing challenges, but rookie tight end Brock Bowers is providing a rare bright spot.
Selected 13th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Bowers has exceeded expectations with standout performances.
“Brock Bowers is a superstar, we said that, and I don’t think I’m putting a label on him. I think it’s real. We see it, and all he does is show up and make plays,” head coach Antonio Pierce praised.
In five games, Bowers leads tight ends in key statistics, including 36 targets, 313 receiving yards, and five receptions of 20+ yards. He shares the lead in catches (28) with George Kittle and holds the third-longest touchdown among tight ends at 57 yards.
Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy acknowledged Bowers’ versatility:
“He’s one of those guys that allow you to do a bunch of different things with one person. It’s our job to keep making sure he has the opportunity to make those plays.”
Despite Bowers’ contributions, the Raiders offense has been underwhelming, ranking 22nd in points and 24th in yards.
Their rushing game is nearly dormant, sitting 30th in both attempts and yards. With Aidan O’Connell now starting at quarterback, the Raiders hope for a spark against the Pittsburgh Steelers’ formidable defense, which ranks second in points allowed.
The Raiders must also address defensive issues, including a league-high 56 missed tackles. Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham admitted:
“It starts with me. I’m in charge of the defense, and we’ve got to figure out a way to get it right. We’re working on it in practice, I can promise you that.”
The Raiders aim to turn things around when they face the Steelers on Sunday.
