Dapo Mebude has openly expressed his aspiration to return to Rangers, revealing that scoring for the club remains his ultimate dream since he departed Ibrox in the summer of 2021.
The 23-year-old forward, who became a free agent after allowing his contract at Rangers to expire, has since experienced a challenging journey through several clubs, including Watford, Oostende, and currently Dunfermline Athletic.
During his tenure at Rangers, Mebude made just one senior appearance, which came during the 2018/19 Scottish Premiership season. He faced stiff competition for a place in the starting lineup, notably from established strikers Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos. In an interview with the Daily Record on October 17, Mebude expressed his desire to don the Rangers jersey again, stating:
“I want to play for Rangers again one day. I would love to play at Ibrox. I made my debut when I was a young boy and then decided to take a different route.”
Despite a series of setbacks, including injuries and a near-fatal car accident, Mebude remains optimistic about his career. Although he has played only 18 minutes for Dunfermline in the Scottish Championship this season, his ambition to return to Ibrox underscores a determination to recapture the form that eluded him in the past.
A return to Rangers seems unlikely based on his recent performance record, but he is hopeful that one successful season could change his fortunes.
