The Detroit Lions have reinforced their practice squad by signing three defensive players: defensive tackle Chris Smith, linebacker Abraham Beauplan, and linebacker Ezekiel Turner.
This decision follows a series of roster adjustments as the Lions manage injuries and new player acquisitions. Previously, Smith and Beauplan were elevated from the practice squad to the active roster last Saturday to fill gaps during the Lions’ Week 9 game against the Green Bay Packers.

However, by Monday, the team released them to accommodate two new additions: edge rusher Za’Darius Smith, who joined via trade, and wide receiver Jameson Williams, who returned after serving a suspension. After clearing waivers, Smith and Beauplan rejoined the practice squad on Wednesday.
Ezekiel Turner, the third addition, is a new face for the Lions. Known primarily for his special teams contributions, Turner played college football as a defensive back at the University of Washington and initially joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals in 2018.
He transitioned to linebacker, where he established himself over six seasons, tallying 83 tackles across 81 games and earning a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. Turner’s Pro Football Focus (PFF) special teams ratings have consistently been strong, with scores ranging from 61.0 to 86.4 over the years.
This season, he had brief practice squad stints with the 49ers, Seahawks, and Texans and was briefly elevated to play in Week 3 for Houston, logging 13 snaps and a solid 75.7 special teams grade.
Interestingly, Turner joined Detroit just as the Lions prepare to face the Texans, one of his former practice squads. With two of Detroit’s linebackers sidelined in practice, the Lions hope Turner will bring much-needed depth and experience to their roster.
