Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Ryan Williams, a standout true freshman, has been named a semifinalist for the esteemed 2024 Shaun Alexander Award, which celebrates the best freshman in college football.
The announcement came on Wednesday, spotlighting Williams as the sole Alabama player to make the semifinalist list this season. This follows in the footsteps of former Alabama safety Caleb Downs, who won the award in 2023.
Williams has distinguished himself as Alabama’s top wide receiver throughout the season, amassing a team-high 35 receptions, 702 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns—leading the SEC in touchdowns. He has maintained an impressive 20.1 yards per catch, showcasing his dynamic playmaking ability.
Williams has also contributed with a rushing touchdown, four punt returns for 31 yards, and two kickoff returns totaling 14 yards.
With four regular-season games left, Williams has the potential to surpass 1,000 receiving yards—a rare feat for a freshman. If he achieves this, it could solidify his candidacy for the Shaun Alexander Award, making his debut season one of the most remarkable for an Alabama freshman in recent memory.
