As the New York Mets face the potential departure of first baseman Pete Alonso, a new trade proposal has emerged involving a blockbuster deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.
MLB analyst Anthony McCarron discussed the possibility of the Mets acquiring Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from Toronto, who would step in as the team’s new first baseman.
In this proposed trade, the Mets would send a package that includes infielder Jeff McNeil, their No. 1 ranked prospect Jett Williams, and the fourth-ranked prospect Ryan Clifford. In exchange, they would receive Guerrero Jr., a 25-year-old star who hit .323 with 30 home runs and 103 RBIs last season.
McCarron highlighted that the Mets would be acquiring a potential long-term star to secure the first base position, though he acknowledged that Toronto might hesitate given that Guerrero Jr. will become a free agent in just one year.
However, despite the speculation, the Blue Jays have expressed no intention of trading Guerrero Jr. or fellow star Bo Bichette. General manager Ross Atkins emphasized that both players are integral to the team’s future, and the organization is focused on signing them to long-term extensions.
Meanwhile, Alonso, who hit .240 with 34 home runs and 88 RBIs last season, has expressed his desire to remain with the Mets, citing his love for the team, the fans, and the city of New York. He remains hopeful about his future with the Mets as he awaits contract discussions.
