Craig Breslow, the Boston Red Sox’s chief baseball officer, recently addressed the ongoing trade rumors surrounding first baseman Triston Casas during the MLB general manager meetings on November 5.
The rumors gained traction after Ken Rosenthal’s September 13 column, which suggested that the Red Sox could trade Casas to acquire a more experienced right-handed infielder, a move that could help balance their lefty-heavy lineup.
Breslow, however, was quick to dismiss the speculation, stating:
“I’m not sure where that’s coming from,” and emphasized that the team has high expectations for Casas. “Casas is a guy that we think has 40-home run potential. He’s young and also has a great strike zone discipline and controls an at-bat. We’re excited he’s on our team,” Breslow continued.
The Red Sox front office is clearly committed to Casas, who has shown flashes of power and plate discipline since his debut.
While the 2024 season saw Casas limited to 63 games due to a rib injury, he still posted a solid .241/.337/.462 slash line, with 13 home runs and 32 RBI. Despite a relatively small sample size in 2024, his potential makes him a target for teams seeking a left-handed power hitter at first base.
Nevertheless, Breslow’s recent comments strongly suggest that Casas is likely to stay with the Red Sox, even if no player is considered untouchable this offseason.
