In an exclusive interview with TMZ Sports, NFL legend Brett Favre expressed his belief that Aaron Rodgers still possesses the skill to compete at a high level and dismissed the idea of the Jets’ quarterback retiring after this challenging season.
Despite Rodgers and the New York Jets enduring a dismal 3-8 record, Favre isn’t ready to see his former Green Bay Packers teammate hang up his cleats.
“There’s a little time to right the ship, but they better hurry,” Favre said, referring to New York’s slim chances of salvaging their season. “If they do, and they make a run — maybe he walks away. But I just find it hard to believe that a competitor of the magnitude that Aaron has been over the years would go out that way if it ended today.”
Favre acknowledged Rodgers’ struggles, including his 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions — one of the least productive statistical seasons of his career.
At nearly 41 years old, retirement rumors have swirled, but Favre suggested an underlying ailment might be affecting Rodgers’ game.
Nonetheless, Favre maintained, “I still think he has it.”
Rodgers has six games remaining to prove his doubters wrong, starting with the Jets’ matchup against Seattle on Dec. 1.
