Juan Soto’s move to the New York Mets sent shockwaves through baseball, enhancing the Mets’ World Series prospects while stinging the Yankees, where he excelled last season.

In his introductory press conference at Citi Field, Soto clarified that the Yankees made a strong effort to retain him.

“They did everything in their power,” he said.

Yet, with multiple teams vying for him, the Mets seemed the best long-term fit.

“I don’t think it was about choosing the Mets over the Yankees,” Soto explained. “Five teams were in the running until the last moment. After weighing everything, I went with the Mets.”

The Yankees offered a 16-year, $760 million contract, competitive with the Mets’ 15-year, $765 million deal. Ultimately, perks like a family suite request and Steve Cohen’s commitment swayed Soto.

Soto noted the Mets’ vision for winning and their family-oriented culture influenced his decision. Cohen, determined to secure Soto, projected winning two to four championships over the next decade.

The Mets’ personal touch, including a recruitment pitch at Cohen’s Beverly Hills mansion, showcased their dedication.

Soto’s move signifies a fresh start in Queens, where championship dreams looml arge.
