The New York Mets are reportedly fielding significant interest in veteran outfielder Starling Marte, according to Bleacher Report and insights from Jeff Passan.

Marte, a two-time Gold Glove winner, recently completed a season hitting .269 and is set to earn $20.75 million in 2025. The Pittsburgh Pirates, in need of an experienced corner outfielder after parting ways with Bryan De La Cruz, are seen as a potential landing spot for the 36-year-old.

A proposed trade scenario suggests the Pirates could reacquire Marte if the Mets agree to cover half his salary. In exchange, the Mets would receive three Pirates prospects: Jack Brannigan (ranked No. 14), Billy Cook (No. 22), and Axiel Plaz (No. 30). The Mets covering part of Marte’s salary makes the inclusion of Plaz feasible.

Marte, who spent 2012-2019 with the Pirates, was integral to three playoff appearances during his tenure and won two Gold Gloves. His return could create a decision for manager Derek Shelton regarding outfield alignment, with Marte and Bryan Reynolds potentially splitting left and right field duties.

Fans in Pittsburgh would welcome the return of a familiar face to bolster the lineup.
