Al Hilal’s 28 successive winning streak breaks and set all time world record.

Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal made history on Tuesday by securing a spot in the AFC Champions League semi-finals with a remarkable performance against Al Ittihad.

Their 2-0 victory at Ittihad’s King Abdullah Sport City not only propelled them into the next round but also saw them set a new world record for consecutive victories.

Al Hilal’s astounding streak now stands at 28 wins in a row, eclipsing the previous record held by Welsh team The New Saints, who achieved 27 straight wins in 2016.

Based in Riyadh, Al Hilal, already the most decorated team in AFC Champions League history with four titles to their name, cruised through to the semi-finals with a commanding 4-0 aggregate victory in Jeddah.

Having been runners-up last year, Al Hilal showcased their dominance in the quarter-final second leg with second-half goals from Yasser Al Shahrani and Brazilian forward Malcom.

Their next challenge in the semi-finals will be against Al Ain from the UAE, who secured their spot with a penalty shootout victory over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.

Meanwhile, Ittihad endured a disappointing night, compounded by striker Abderrazak Hamdallah receiving a second booking for an altercation with Hilal defender Ali Al Bulaihi in the final minute of normal time, sparking clashes between players from both teams.

Despite missing key players such as Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante, Ittihad failed to pose a significant threat for most of the match, with Al Hilal dominating proceedings.

Although Ittihad came close to opening the scoring early on with Romarinho hitting the post, Al Hilal’s goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais made crucial saves to deny their opponents.

Al Hilal eventually secured their place in the semi-finals in the 61st minute when Salem Al Dawsari assisted Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who then set up Al Shahrani to score. Malcom sealed the victory deep into injury time, ensuring a memorable night for Al Hilal.

With a commanding lead in the Saudi Pro League and nine consecutive Champions League victories, Al Hilal’s quest for glory continues as they aim to add another AFC Champions League title to their illustrious history, having most recently lifted the trophy in 2021.
