Aaron Rodgers acknowledged a costly error during the New York Jets’ 27-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday but attributed the misstep, in part, to challenging wind conditions.
With the Jets ahead 21-7 in the second quarter, Rodgers had a prime opportunity to extend the lead. On second-and-7 from the Seahawks’ nine-yard line, the four-time NFL MVP attempted a pass to Garrett Wilson in the end zone. However, Rodgers overthrew the ball, leaving Wilson unable to secure it. The incomplete pass cost the Jets a chance to go up 28-7.
To make matters worse, on the very next play, Rodgers threw a pick-six, with former Jets player Leonard Williams intercepting the ball and returning it for a touchdown, sparking Seattle’s comeback.
Reflecting on the play in his postgame remarks, Rodgers admitted fault but pointed to environmental factors.
“The wind was a little inconsistent,” Rodgers said. “Maybe I should have thrown it a little flatter because [Wilson] was wide open, but shoulda. I mean, I gotta hit that. It doesn’t matter—windy. I’ve played in wind before. It was inconsistent, but I gotta hit that.”
The missed opportunity proved pivotal as the Seahawks turned the tide and handed the Jets their ninth loss, pushing them to 3-9 and further diminishing their playoff chances.
