The Alabama Crimson Tide is undergoing significant changes this season, marked by the retirement of legendary head coach Nick Saban.

Kalen DeBoer has taken the helm, leading a team that features many new faces, including some key transfers. One of the most notable additions is Keon Sabb, a defensive back who transferred from Michigan.

Keon Sabb was part of the Michigan team that knocked Alabama out of the College Football Playoff last season. Despite this, Sabb decided to switch sides during the offseason, joining the Crimson Tide. Alabama’s defensive coordinator, Kane Wommack, has high expectations for Sabb, describing his progress in the preseason as “phenomenal.”

Sabb emerged as a strong player for Michigan at the end of last season, making crucial plays and earning a starting spot for the upcoming year. However, he chose to bring his talents to Alabama, where he is expected to play a significant role in the Tide’s defense.

Wommack praised Sabb’s development, noting that he’s starting to play with greater anticipation and communicate more effectively on the field.

As Alabama enters the 2024 season, there are many uncertainties, especially following Saban’s departure. The secondary is one of the key areas under scrutiny, and Sabb’s performance will be pivotal in solidifying this unit.

Last season, Sabb recorded 28 tackles, two interceptions—one of which was returned for a touchdown—and even contributed with half a sack. His impact was felt in crucial moments, including a game-changing tackle against Alabama in the Rose Bowl.

Sabb’s journey has positioned him for a breakout year with Alabama, and fans won’t have to wait long to see him in action. The Crimson Tide opens their season against Western Kentucky, kicking off the Kalen DeBoer era in Tuscaloosa. With a preseason AP Poll ranking of #5, Alabama is heavily favored in their first game, and all eyes will be on how this new-look team performs without Saban at the helm.
