Alan Shearer has expressed his faith in Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk, despite the player’s challenging start at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking on “The Rest Is Football” podcast, Shearer acknowledged Mudryk’s struggles but emphasized the young winger’s potential.

Mudryk, who earns £100,000 a week, has not lived up to expectations since his high-profile move, scoring just seven goals and providing four assists in 58 appearances for Chelsea.

Chelsea has been a tumultuous environment recently, marked by managerial changes and significant upheaval under the new ownership.

Enzo Maresca, the latest head coach, faces the daunting task of harnessing the talent within a young, yet inconsistent squad. Amidst this, Mudryk’s development has been a focal point of discussion.

Shearer, a Premier League Hall of Famer, believes Mudryk possesses unique qualities that are yet to be fully realized.

“There is something in there,” Shearer stated, noting that the player needs substantial coaching to unlock his potential.

His co-hosts, Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, echoed these sentiments.

Richards highlighted the importance of consistent playtime and managerial confidence for Mudryk, stating:

“He needs a manager who believes in him and a run of games to build his confidence.”

Mudryk’s debut season has been underwhelming, with his performances falling short of the expectations set by his substantial transfer fee.

Despite his disappointing statistics, there have been glimpses of his capabilities, showcasing his speed and physical attributes.

Looking forward, the onus is on Mudryk to find consistency in his game, particularly in his decision-making and end product.

Chelsea fans and pundits alike hope that with the right guidance and a stable environment, the young winger can finally fulfill the promise he showed prior to his arrival at the club.
